Field Trip

Last week Ethan's class went on a field trip. It was by far the best field trip I've been on! His teacher does an entire section on Pioneers and had the kids dress up, answer roll call with 'present Mam', wear a dunce cap should they require it and start the day with 'God save the Queen' and a scripture reading. Just like they did back then. The kids had a blast and learned SO much about their heritage and the vastly different way of life that people had 100 years ago or so.

It culminated with a trip to Bur.naby Vill.age Mus.eum. For those of you who've never been it's an outdoor museum set up to replicate life in the 1920(ish) time frame. It was made even more beautiful by being decorated for Christmas the way they would have back then. No LED lights!
A 100 year old house. Tiny, sparse and beautiful!

A look at a log cabin - think The Ing.alls

The Carousel - this was my favourite horse.

One room school house - including very stern teacher with stick.

El.worth

love the old-fashioned decor

Check out this gorgeous buffet. This is my favourite piece in the whole place.

A butter churning demo which the kids groaned at as they'll be doing it come January. :)

Don't know what these are but I like them. Like giant old school Christmas lights - my fav.

Oh the boughs! With ribbon! I'm going to decorate my whole house next year like that.

Well, maybe not the horse shoes.

Creepy mannequins concluded the tour. Ick!

A very fun way to spend the day with 40+ kids. Thankfully I was only in charge of 5!

This is the second time I've read a blog post about Burnaby Village Museum this week. Now I'm just dying to see it for myself!
