Christmas Eve

Well, it's finally here!
There is something so special about Christmas eve. I think it's my favourite part of Christmas.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas filled with miracles.

A winter's walk

We've had a couple days of no rain so it was time to get out and enjoy it! We went down to the 'detention pond' - silly name - and the boys pedalled to their heart's content and I got a good walk in. The scenery looked so wintry, I just couldn't help snapping away.

There was still ice that hadn't melted

And some wild cloud formations.

After we got home it seemed fitting that we indulge in some hot cocoa and ice some cookies.
The boys happily sprinkled away as you can see. :)

The 'all dressed' cookie.

Singing and gingerbread

Owen got to do his little spiel in church this morning. Kids that age are just so stinking cute! One little guy dropped his bell and started wailing NO!!! in the middle of a song but stopped at soon as he got it back. Priceless.
I also loved that the kid's choir just did something simple this year. My favourite memories of Christmas programs at the church I grew up in was Christmas Eve when everyone had worked SO hard to memorize their verses and poems and songs. I guess I just like simplicity. You don't need to glitz up the Christmas story. It's amazing all on it's own.
As usual I picked the wrong side to sit on so I couldn't get very good pix. I just love the expression in this one. Even in the blur you can see they're right into it.

Owen's right under the mike stand with a football sweater on.

We had a very Christmassy day today and it was so fun! We made our gingerbread house (that I still had from last year - eek! - the candy's all hard so I'm sure it's fine, right?) and the boys did a great job of decorating!
Ethan's side

Owen's side

and just the side

Now let's see if we can keep it like that until Christmas. :)
Ethan and I started a new puzzle too. There's something about Christmas that makes me feel the need to puzzle. I never get the urge any other time of year. Strange.

Just for fun

I love taking pictures. B thinks I'm weird. :)
Here are some of the decorations I have around the house.
I bought this at a dollar store. Only a couple bucks but so cute.

Speaks for itself:

Snowman tic tac toe.

Warm and cheery.

He's so happy. :)

Not sure why these won't turn.

Counter art.

This is one decoration that has been disposed of. :)

Snow!

Ok. I am really behind seeing as it's now raining and warming up. At the first sign of a snowflake the boys were begging to go out in it. Before there was even an inch on the ground they were out making snow angels, shovelling and riding bike(??). Crazy kids.

That was Sunday afternoon. We made them come in after an hour or so (torture!!), so that we could bring them to my parents as B and I were going our for dinner for my b-day (see - I told you it didn't stop!). We drove out to the Ol.ive G@rden. YUM! I hadn't been there for dinner in at least a year. Lunch, yes, but not dinner. I could eat that whole giant bowl of their tossed salad! I don't know what they put in that dressing (probably butter) but it's SO good! And I had leftovers for lunch the next day.
So you see, it's all been pretty good...except (you saw that coming didn't you) that Ethan woke up Sunday morning with pink eye. Ugh. B dropped Owen and I off at church and he took Ethan to the clinic and sure enough he needed a round of eye drop antibiotics to cure it. Now, has anyone ever tried to give eye drops to a stubborn, spastic, strong willed 6 year old? Neither had I. And let me tell you it was not fun. It took 1 1/2 hours to convince him that this was the only way it was going to get better. He kicked and screamed and we bribed and threatened and finally he agreed. Although he admitted that it wasn't as bad as he'd thought the next 2 sessions were almost as painful. And can I just ask why they can't make something that doesn't require 2 drops 4x a day? Ridiculous. Monday morning I had to literally sit on him and pry his eye open or he'd have been late for his carpool. Aren't I a nice mommy? Sigh. And of course that's the first thing he tells our neighbour. Sheesh. We were both in tears by the end of it. Now with the help of some chocolate chips he's mostly more willing and that was the last time we fought about it. And of course it spread to his other eye so 4 drops 4x a day. What a delight.
Well that's it for now folks.

Very random post

Oh I have so much to post but we just got a new computer as our other one was dying a slow painful death. We figured it would be better to get one before it actually croaked and we lost everything. That being said we haven't transferred all out stuff yet from the old one. And I downloaded pics onto this one and now I can't find them. Arg!! And I have to work at rebuilding my favs list so that I don't have to search for everything! So...I'll be back to posting soon I hope. I must say the quickness and the fact that you can have 3 pages open and it doesn't slow to a crawl is quite delightful! Once everything is in place it will be even better!
Oh!!!! I just found them! Although, it downloaded ALL (I mean like close to 400) the pictures from my camera so now they are all dated that day. Sigh. Oh the joys of technology. :)
Anyhow, I'll start here:
Ethan's teacher is really great. She really puts in effort for the kids and knows exactly what they're all about. The kids had sent Santa letters a few weeks ago and last week Ethan came screaming out of school with a reply letter that Santa had sent. If you click on the picture it should enlarge.

She really knew exactly what to put to make it sound authentic and she also had downloaded something on her phone that 'scanned' the kids so they could find out if they were on the 'good' or 'naughty' list. Ethan was quite amazed that he was on the 'good' list and was rather shocked that his teacher was on the 'naughty' list. ha ha
My birthday did continue throughout the week and on Thursday Bets and I went out for lunch to celebrate. We went to Gre.ek Isl.ands and enjoyed a leisurely lunch. I had an omelet which may seem rather odd at a greek restaurant but it was what I felt like at the moment. And it was tasty!

Then on Saturday was our village Christmas party potluck. The food was so yummy (and there was so much!) and for dessert I brought these cute little cupcakes and some butterscotch marshmallow squares.

Santa even stopped by and all the children were given a small gift (that us parents had brought) and got to sit on his knee. Owen gave him a big hug just before he left. So cute.

There, that at least finishes off last week.
More tomorrow!
